Africa-Europe High-Level Policymakers Meeting on Energy – 26 January 2025 - Tanzania
18:00-20:00 - GMT+3
Universal access to energy is central to Africa’s development. Agreements and initiatives, such as the African Union’s Common Position on Energy Access and Energy Transition, the Nairobi Declaration and global commitments to triple the world's installed renewable energy generation capacity to at least 11,000 GW by 2030 chart bold visions and ambitious action for the development of Africa’s energy system. The common elements include an urgency regarding energy access and an acknowledgement that renewable energy has an important role to play for the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 – universal access to clean, modern and affordable energy.
To foster cross-continental dialogue on these challenges, the Africa-Europe Foundation (AEF), together with the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) are convening a series of in-person Africa-Europe high-level policymakers meetings, under the Chatham House rule. The third meeting of the series will take place on 26 January 2025 ahead of the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where critical energy compacts will be signed.
The discussion will focus on sharing common challenges and exploring how can the EU's 'Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative' (AEGEI) align and support the Mission 300 initiative. The discussion will contribute towards an integrated understanding of the African Union Agenda 2063, the European Union Global Gateway and the Mission 300 initiative.
